Ian Colley

Finance Director

I am the Finance Director and work alongside the Managing Partner to ensure that the firm’s rapid growth is managed in a profitable and responsible manner for the benefit of all stakeholders.  I bring innovation and external commercial acumen to the leadership team.

My areas of work

I have a belief that clients will value having coordinated legal, tax, accounting, business advisory and investment advice.  As the MD of Fish Financial, a successful (and co-located) wealth management business, which in turn has a financial services JV with a leading local accountancy practice, we already have mutual clients who view us as a trusted business partner across multiple disciplines.

As a Chartered Management Accountant, ex-international banker, and an entrepreneur, my other role is to bring external commercial acumen to the firm's leadership team at a time of great change and challenge within the legal profession.

My previous experience

I held executive and country head roles for ANZ Banking Group in the Middle East, Indonesia, Pakistan and New Zealand in a 14-year career that saw exposure to economic and political turmoil (Iraq War, Asian Crisis). I have significant experience advising clients from diverse cultural backgrounds; in times of growth, recession and extreme political distress. I have also managed a private banking unit in Dubai, and since 2007 have built a wealth management business that provides investment and tax advice to high net worth individuals and business owners.

I am entrepreneurial by nature, and have experienced the highs and lows of developing start-up businesses. These include the development of a composite chassis for the EV (electric vehicle) market, the creation of “snow surfing" a new winter sports product/sport to ride the mountains with no bindings, and the development of a race heritage branded supercar for the road.

My interest and hobbies

A keen sportsman, I still enjoy playing Vets football on Sunday morning, and love playing golf. With the youngest of my 4 children now at University, this will also hopefully allow my wife Rebecca and I to renew our lifelong passion for travel and different cultures. We live (and enjoy an active social life) in Farnham however given our nomadic backgrounds we have encouraged our children to be independent and take advantage of the vast opportunities that lie further afield.
