I am Head of the Employment Law Department and advise and assist both commercial and individual clients on employment law and HR matters, from recruitment to dismissal and everything in between.
My areas of work
I am an experienced employment law solicitor, having acted for a variety of businesses, charities, educational establishments and individuals over the years. I deliberately act for both commercial and individual clients, believing that this enables me to take a balanced and strategic approach to the work I undertake and the advice I give to my clients.
I routinely advise both commercial and individual clients on internal grievance and disciplinary issues, robustly negotiating employee departures and settlement agreements where appropriate. For commercial clients, I provide the full range of day-to-day HR support services, including strategic advice and assistance and the drafting of employment contracts, policies and procedures. I work closely with my commercial colleagues in respect of employment issues relating to business reorganisations, purchases and sales. I also have considerable experience of employment litigation, having successfully represented clients in the Employment Tribunal and Employment Appeal Tribunal in all manner of claims. I regularly deliver employment law updates and training sessions.
I am an active member of the Employment Lawyers Association.
My recent successes
I successfully represented an individual pursuing a complicated claim of unfair dismissal and disability discrimination against a large plc. After I had successfully established that my client was disabled, the Tribunal found, following a three-day hearing, that my client had been unfairly dismissed and suffered disability discrimination. Additionally, I also successfully defended a charity against claims for unfair dismissal and whistleblowing, with the Tribunal dismissing the claims brought against my client in their entirety.
My previous experience
I qualified as a solicitor in 2004 and have practised exclusively in the field of employment law and HR matters ever since. Having initially worked in both the Bristol and London offices of a national firm, I relocated to Surrey in 2006. I then worked in the employment departments of two large regional firms and at a specialist employment law firm before joining BakerLaw in March 2015.

My interests and hobbies
Whilst my two young sons occupy most of my time, I do like to explore the Surrey countryside when I have the opportunity. I also enjoy watching and playing several sports, and am a keen supporter of Chelsea FC.
