I am an Associate in the Employment Law Department advising individuals and businesses on all aspects of employment law and human resources.
My areas of work
As an experienced employment law solicitor, I routinely advise clients on dealing with internal grievances, disciplinary procedures and redundancies and provide high quality HR documents. I regularly draft Contracts of Employment, Consultancy or Freelance Agreements and policies and procedures. In addition, I advise on and robustly negotiate employee departures and draft settlement agreements, where appropriate.
I have acted for clients in bringing and defending Employment Tribunal claims and in presenting appeals to the Employment Appeal Tribunal on matters including unfair dismissal, constructive dismissal, wrongful dismissal, breach of contract and discrimination claims.
Whilst I am able to provide a full-employment law advice service, I have particular expertise in advising on issues of long-term sickness absence and disability. I regularly advise on issues relating to work-related stress, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and other disabilities. I am an active contributor to The @Work Partnership's Occupational Health [at Work] Journal for Occupational Health Practitioners and provide answers to questions posed on its OH Law online platform. I am also invited to speak on the subject of disability discrimination by different associations and organisations.
I act for both employees and employers and regularly assist and advise on matters including post-termination restrictions, prospects of success in respect of employment claims and negotiated exits.
My practice typically involves 90% dispute-related work.
My previous experience
I qualified as a solicitor in 2012 having obtained a First-Class Honours degree in Law and Criminology (LLB) from the University of Portsmouth. Following my degree, I obtained a Distinction in the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law, Guildford. I have practised employment law exclusively since qualification and, prior to qualification, undertook a 12-month seat in employment law during my training contract. In addition to my roles as an employment lawyer, I also played an active role in managing a firm’s HR until I joined BakerLaw LLP in July 2017.
My involvement in business development and marketing has included my role as secretary and committee member of a successful networking group and managing the firm’s social media platforms.
I am an active member of the Farnham Chamber of Commerce Committee.
