“It’s just a simple Will.......why does it cost this much?”

It’s very common for people to tell us they only need a “simple Will”.

Perhaps:

  • Everything is going to your spouse, or
  • You have two children and you want everything divided equally, or
  • You don’t feel you have any significant valuable assets.

On the surface, yes, your wishes may sound very clear and uncomplicated.

But a Will is not just a form or a template. A Will is a legal tool that protects your loved ones, your intentions, and your legacy.

And to do that well, it needs careful thought, accurate drafting and a full understanding of your personal circumstances and situation – not just the number of assets you have or the number of children you have.

Why ‘simple’ isn’t always simple

When people say simple,  they usually mean:

  • ‘There aren’t many assets’.
  • 'There are only a few beneficiaries’.
  • 'I know exactly who I want to leave everything to'.

But the true complexity of a Will lies in the details that prevent things from going wrong later. For example:

  • What happens if a beneficiary dies before you?
  • What if your executor can’t act?
  • Do any gifts create tax implications?
  • Are there joint assets, blended families, business interests, foreign assets?
  • Do you want to make sure a child or vulnerable person is protected (maybe from outside influences, internal health challenges or cared for by a guardian when you’re gone)?
  • Are there relationships where clarity matters, to avoid misunderstandings?

A Will that looks ‘simple’ can become very complicated for the people you love if these things are not considered now. This is where professional guidance matters.

You’re not paying for a piece of paper

You are paying for:

  • Experience – so your Will works in real life not just on paper.
  • Legal precision – so your wishes can actually be carried out.
  • Peace of mind – for you, and in time, those you care about.
  • Future-proofing – so your Will is still legally enforceable if circumstances change.
  • Protection from disputes, confusion, stress and unexpected costs later.

The Will itself is the final product. But the real value lies in the thought, discussion and guidance that shapes it.

A ‘simple’ Will is simple because it’s been done well

When you work with a legal professional, part of the value is that:

  • You don’t have to guess.
  • You don’t have to navigate legal language.
  • You don’t have to worry about unintended consequences.
  • You know your loved ones won’t be left with stressful decisions later.

The calm and clarity your family will experience in the future is created by the careful work we do now, and the advice and service we provide.

A Will is a gift to the people who will one day need to rely on it, often during very difficult and emotional circumstances. Taking time now to get it right is one of the most thoughtful acts of care there is.

If you need guidance you’re not alone

You don’t need to come to us with answers.

You don’t need to know all the legal terms.

You don’t need to have everything figured out before we start (most people don’t, and that’s where the value of our advice becomes very apparent).

Our role is to:

  • Listen
  • Understand what matters to you
  • Ask the right questions
  • And make everything clear and manageable

so that your Will feels simple, because it has been done properly.
