At BakerLaw, we are always looking to provide the best for our clients  not only in the customer experience we deliver, but also in the services we are offering.

For some time, our Wills, Powers of AttorneyTrusts Probate team have been looking to provide a different type of Wills service, which caters to those looking for a more convenient or lower-cost option to the traditional process of making a Will with solicitors.

On Monday 22nd August 2022, BakerLaw LLP is launching a new Online Wills service. The service will be mainly digital and online-based, making it a convenient and accessible option for our clients.

What are BakerLaw Online Wills?

There will be three services offered by BakerLaw Online Wills: our Online Will, Online Will – Premium and our Bespoke Advised Online Will.

Online Will, for 225 (incl. VAT)

Our Online Will service is a simple solution for someone looking to prepare a straightforward Will, without the cost and time commitments of the traditional Will drafting process. Clients will use our online tool to complete their details, provide Will instructions, make any changes to their draft Will, and submit it to us for checking and confirmation. They will then be able to print the finished Will to sign at home, using our Will Signing Instructions as a guide. Our online service is easy to use, and details can be submitted at any time – whenever is convenient.

This service is for clients with simple estates, looking to prepare a simple Will, who do not want or need legal advice on their assets, circumstances or inheritance tax position. The service will be provided for those with assets under the inheritance tax threshold of £325,000, who have no foreign assets and who are domiciled in England & Wales.

Online Will – Premium, for £275 (incl. VAT)

Our Online Will – Premium service is the next step up from the Online Will. The service is the same, with all details being provided online, and the draft Will provided via our online portal. However, the difference with an Online Will – Premium is that instead of printing and signing the Will at home, clients will come to our Farnham office so that the signing of their Will can be supervised and witnessed by our team.

The correct signing of your Will is vital to its validity. A common issue with homemade Wills that are signed without the supervision of a lawyer, is that the signing process has not been completed correctly. This can lead to the Will not having the full effect the Will-maker intended, difficulties in dealing with the Will-maker’s estate after they have died, and in the worst cases incorrect signing can make the Will completely invalid.

Our Online Will – Premium service will give clients the peace of mind that their Will has been signed properly, under the guidance and supervision of our professional Wills team.

Bespoke Advised Online Will, from £450 + VAT

Our Bespoke Advised Online Will is a straightforward solution for someone wanting the personalised advice of a traditional Will drafting process, with the convenience and ease of completing details and booking appointments online. It is a hybrid service meeting the needs of our clients in a changing, modern world.

With a Bespoke Advised Online Will clients can use our online service to register, complete their details and provide their initial Will instructions. They will then be invited to book a face-to-face appointment to discuss their instructions with our experienced and professional Wills team. We can advise on the best ways to achieve a client’s aims for their Will, whether that be to  minimise exposure to inheritance tax, ensure provision for a vulnerable person, or perhaps protect assets for loved ones. Whatever the client’s wishes, by choosing our Bespoke Advised Online Will, they will receive advice on their options for achieving their aims, all tailored to their personal circumstances.

How do I register for an Online Will?

Our Online Will service will launch on Monday 22nd August 2022. Clients can register for the service via our website, where further details on eligibility will be provided for each of our three services. If you would like to be notified once the service is open for registration, please email us at onlinewills@baker-law.co.uk and we will email you with a link to the registration page, once the service is live.

What if I don't want to prepare my Will online?

If you would prefer a more traditional approach to Will drafting, our standard Will preparation service is still available. You can receive correspondence via post, or email, come to our office to meet with one of our lawyers in person, and sign your Will at our office under the supervision and guidance of our team. For more details on our traditional Will drafting service, please visit our Wills and Will Pricing pages.
